Floral design inspiration- creating large floral centerpieces

A Most Curious Wedding Fair – The UK’s Coolest Wedding Show Comes to Norwich!

Every year I would with a small team of fantastic folks on a fund raiser for scholarship money for a local student to attend my Alma Mater- University of Montevallo's fantastic art program.

Every year, I do the floral centerpieces... usually on the fly from whatever lovelies I find at the local wholesale florist.

This year is different. This year I am actually looking for inspiration for the flowers. I need it to be a big centerpiece, a purple and gold floral display, and preferably remarkable in floral style. That last one not always met, but striven for.

Here is some of my Pinterest pinspirations for the floral centerpieces... and some non- floral centerpieces.

So this last one is not my color scheme, but it is a punny version of my theme (Shades of Purple and Gold, in stead of shades of color, I could do "lampshades" of purple and gold.) I can totally see this idea of purple and gold lanterns hanging over the food tables... and it would be reuseable, which is always a consideration when raising money for a state university!

My hottest pin from Pinterest

I love that Pinterest speaks to my analytical side, as in, "will others like this pin" or "how many repins will this get" or which of my pins this week will be the hottest. My answer for this week is...

Alternative to a mosquito net. Brilliant. Stenciled screens or net lace.
I think they are stenciled, or maybe it is netting lace. The screens are from outside the US, in a place where they do not have screens on their windows, normally, like we do. This looks so cool, I'd consider replacing, or stenciling, as the case my be.

Red poppies- for rememberance day and beyond

I love find TV shows that I've never seen before on Netflix. Most recently I found a TV show from Canada called Bomb Girls and I was charmed by the red poppies worn on the lapels of the women and men. I was unfamiliar with the story behind the red poppies and found all the info on The Royal British Legion page here.

After WW1 the fields and trenches, which were cut, burned, and turned from the war,  were covered by "Flanders" poppies which grow as weeds in Great Britain. On Remembrance Day in November, Brits wear red poppies so they will "never forget". A lovely way to celebrate and remember.

There were so many great accessories,  including this cute kitchen towel, that I was inspired to find other great poppy accessories.

You can find this kitchen towel at the Poppy Shop UK.

fabrics, fabrics, fabrics!

I love to here the sound of the UPS man's breaks because it means I am about to get a package. Today's package is glorious. It is a fabric shipment for a bedroom project that is delicious! When I took the plastic off of the package, it has the tell-tell squeak of silk rubbing against silk. The back of the fabric is a burst of colored fibers, the front is the ordered beauty of an old world classic floral, re-made with a modern color palette. Floral jacquard silk. Really, need I really say more? In fabrics, color is never richer than when produced in silk. I cannot wait to make it into a headboard!

This fabric came too! I love the subtle animal print of velvet on a weighty natural cotton linen field. Would be perfect for a touch of whimsy in a neutral beach house! Or adding a hint of pale aqua in a creamy family room. Pillows? yes! Chair upholstery? Double yes!

The home office- English style

Pinned Image
What a great home office from Country Living! Often the problem with a home office is the clutter and the make do attitude to the space. This space has none of that- pretty, a bit formal, and functional.
Here are some tips inspired by this room for your home office.
1. Storage- lovely small cabinet in the back can conceal your papers, wireless printer, routers and other messy minutiae.. or an office bar!
2. Color- An office does not have to be  devoid of color. Color can be inspiring, soothing or invigorating. Find a color palette that you love and go to town. I love the English looking  wallpaper in rose, charteuese and chocolate from Osborne and Little. Such a great starting point for the rose color upholstry and the chartreuse office chair.
3. Function- One of the reasons this office is so function is the ability of the furnishings to serve more than one purpose. Th small footstools can also double as small group seating and the side chair is a nce way to get away from your desk to read. The accessories in the space allow for a place for the mail or working papers. The desk houses just enough space for a laptop and room to store the footstools underneath.
4. Lighting- The two windows afford great natural light and the heavy drapes afford light control. The desk light is large enough for true task lighting. The chandelier  seem to be more for looks than function, but would give off nice ambient light in the evenings.
5. Pattern- I love mixing patterns, when they are mixed well and this room mixes them well. Dark on the walls, light on the floor, both patterns of equal size. The drapes are a tonal stripe, which works as a neutral in the room and the velvets, though not patterns, provide texture from grounding the space.
