Color Inspiration- Light Grey and Pale Gold from Michelle Dockery at the Oscars

Inspired by the dresses from the Oscar's this weekend, I loved the subtle palette of Michelle Dockery's dress by Oscar de la Renta in pale warm grey and light gold.  Really pretty! It would be really pretty in a home, as well. The strength of this dress is in the patterning of the fabric. The embroidery creates a tonal pattern of shades of grey from the shadow lines.

All shades of grey are popular in home right now, from the darkest grey browns to the palest cool grey white. Any of these can make a space seem cold without adding warmer colors like gold- as this dress did with gold sequins and the stylist with the pale gold accents. Taking this color cue, I have found some great inspirational examples for the home!

Note the light gold fingernail polish and the pale gold shoes in an almost matte silk satin.

New look in the shop! My British Colonial corner

I love British Colonial, sometimes called British West Indies, or British Campaign, which are really sub-categories of the look. It is warm with pretty dark wood tones, rich in pattern and detail, mix of metals, and always looks curated and collected. I also like the West Indies influence with crisp colors combined with dark woods and neutral textiles. It's like Downton Abbey with a tan!

I have been acquiring pieces that feed this look. And, I added the final touches to the look today in my Colonial Corner by placing the rugs on the wall.

What do you think?

Downton Abbey influences in home design

I love predicting trends. I always have, it's a hobby of my sister and I... that and speaking French to each other. We are not very good at French, so it is best that we only speak French to each other. But design trends, we are excellent at predicting.

If you are missing Downton as I am, here's your fix. My top 3 design trends from Downton that I have watched emerge and are still coming into mainstream design. The wallpaper trend is in high design world and is trickling down into mainstream home designs. The rich colors from Sherwin-Williams are chosen from as palette I recently saw presented at a seminar for interior designers. Lastly, the rugs, which are always in still , offer a fresh look when viewed through the lens of Downton!
