New "wood" floors- great ceramic tiles

I am in love with the versatility of the new floor tiles with the look of wood. They have come along way and the variety of patterns for each color way, as well as the size of the planks, enhances the look of real wood.

So, why would you want tile that looks like wood instead of wood? The are more durable that wood with insect resistance- including termites, resist staining, scratching and are easier to clean than wood. Additionally, they can go in places that traditionally are not recommended for wood, like bathrooms.

Granted the grout lines are a giveaway, however, you are not trying to deceive people that they are not tile, you are making an investment in durable construction!

Typically they come in a 6 inch by 24 inch length and can by cut like any ceramic tile. Lastly, some brands are 100% recycled content. So, no trees were harmed and waste was prevented from entering the landfills! Best of all no refinishing, no gassing off sealers, no warping or cupping!

Home Office-English style- Turquoise and Chocolate

For my weekly room design, I have taken the home office from my last post (image from country living) and as inspiration for a home office.  It's soft, romantic, and looks highly functional! I choose a chocolate and turquoise as the color palette for my office. Below is the decorators story board including wallpaper, paint, carpet and furnishings. All you need to add you office supplies!

pinterest and the kitchen

I am newly discovering pinterest. As a visual person, I find it a great way to create cohesive imagery and make new observations. For me it has the elements of Dumbledore's pensive, I can add images that I find anywhere and look at the all together to find the pattern, trend or commonality.

Pinned Image
Additionally, I am interested in statistical nature of the medium. What to know if other people like something, just pin and wait to see how much it gets re-pinned! To the left is an image from countryliving.com that I pinned for a work project. We were looking at a variety of white kitchens with dark countertops. This image, out of 12 images on the board received twice as many pins as most others. Not that it is not a nice kitchen, but what about this image is so pin-able? The flooring, the green door, the view outside, the homy-ness of the dark wood, maybe the chandalier? I'm still deciding... your thoughts?

SCAD's Interior Design graduate program ranked number one!

The Savannah College of Art and Design interior design graduate and undergraduate programs were recently ranked number one by Design Intelligence. This ranking was based on preparedness upon matriculation by hiring managers. As a current master's candidate, I am quite excited by this accolade, though not surprised!
