pickin' and grinnin'- this week's awesome finds include longwy and blenko!

Tomorrow's weather is supposed to be rough, so I will not be headed out to any sales to find more awesome finds... not that I left anything on the table. My faves this week include...

Lovely French faience, or majolica, pitcher pretty shades of green with that characteristic slightly runny look.
This piece will be headed to Hanna Antiques on Monday.  

Fantastic little Longwy dish from the 1920's. I love this scarab-type pattern! 

I cannot resist some Blenko owls! This rich amber color looks great with old books.

Set of 7 Laurel Burch plates- I love the colors and patterns, even though I am not much for cats.

pickin' and grinnin'- the best of this weekend's vintage shopping

It's been a while since I have posted some of my great picks... but "good" shopping has been light on the ground lately. This week was different and awesome! It is mostly headed to my Etsy pop-up shop at Hanna Antiques! More images on that to come from the shop!

From this week's shopping, I found, this fantastic unsigned painting- looks like Chinatown, maybe? Love the more you look, the more you see. It is on natural linen and looks quite old and more vibrant in person. I think I may live with this one for a bit while I do some more research.

Some fantastic house details from one of the sales this weekend. Really lovely home built in 1905 with period lighting and original tile coal fireplaces.

Picking this weekend- the big art show

There were so many good sales this weekend with great art. The sale I purchased the most from was the Estate of Barbara Evans. I have known of her work for many years and from the article in the Birmingham News in 2008, she lived a life as colorful as her art. These paintings span her trips to Europe and the High Sierras.

I am excited to own this collection! I think I might keep at least one of the six pieces I purchased... but how to pick just one!

Pick's this weekend- Mother's Day Special

I found some winner's this weekend and two are perfect for Mother's Day. Why bring fresh flowers when she can have these floral coasters or fused glass platter and enjoy them year round. Early weekend scores- a few housewares and furniture

I love starting my weekend shopping early. Today, I hit many a spot, shopping for everything from vintage rugs and small cabinets for a TV to deals for my antique shop and online vintage store.

are then not cute! They are new old stock lidded onion soup bowls.

I'd love to see some swiss cheese dripping down the edge!

I found a set of 5 of these! Can't want to clean them up and list them on Etsy!

This would be pretty fantastic for A/V components and a flat screen!

Danish Modern, you are my friend! This is a table that I am pretty sure came from a bank. It is standing desk height with slots on each side for the deposit slips! If there was such a thing as a stand-up conference table, this would be pretty cool! It could also work for a table to show blueprints.

Picks of the weekend...

Sometimes, you know it when you see it. You just know that it is special, that people will love it. There is a British TV show called Lovejoy, about an antique dealer and the mysteries or sometimes murders that happen around him- a Murder She Wrote, but British and antiques, not books. Lovejoy is the main characters name. And he is a "divy" or someone who can tell, by sight, that what they are seeing is "the real deal" or special or valuable. I like to think I am a divy. But, I think it is more that I study the market that I am selling in to know what is going and what's not. It's more trend spotting.

A few weeks ago I found these flocked reindeer. Part of me said, "plastic reindeer?" and the other part said, "magically kitchy" so I bought them and they sold in 12 hours.

Yesterday, I bought a set of glass Christmas trees and they sold in 12 hours. 

Fortunately, I could get more from the second day of the estate sale. Including the 12 inch tree below.

Along with a lovely Nippon tea set, 

a Limoges tray- both in a violet pattern and a collection of pretty demitasse cups and saucers in pink.

Fave of the weekend picking... Hollywood Regency lamp- understated

Though I love the new desk that I just added to the shop... which I stalked, plotted, staked out and woke up really early for, this lamp is my favorite pick. I don't know who made it; I have no history on it. It is just good design in a solid Hollywood Regency package.

Love the black shade on the white ceramic base and the scale of the shade. Nice pagoda shape, bas-relief bells, or maybe it is tassels, and the faux bamboo details. The two bulb lamp has parallel sockets, which allows for the shallow shade.

Sale with a view

Finding a hidden gem at and estate ale is a treat! Sometimes those treats are not for sale, but free for everyone to enjoy!

This little babbling brook was next to the drive up to the estate sale today. The gentle gurgle reminded me of CBS Sunday Morning show in those segments of nature. Really lovely.

picking and grining weekend- new finds

I found some real winners this weekend here are my faves-

Love the wheat, so very natural with a nod to Directoire!

Wedgewood, I think, in basalt. Would be fantastic in a uber contemporary space to have such a graphic, yet classical, image.

These old binoculars are cool and made cooler with the vintage leather case!

Today's Pickin's

 

Today I hit four, count them 4, estate sales in 2 hours. There was so many that I actually didn't have enough time to get to the 5th! I decided to simply put the addresses in groups by area and just plug them into the GPS. I learned a few lessons today.

Note the picture on the left relates of #4!

 Here are my top ones-

1. Look at a map to generally know where you are going.
Had I know that I would be backtracking so far between #1 and #2, I would have put them in a different order. However, had #2 not been a bust, I might not have cared.

2. Use a GPS!
I was so easy to connect between the sales by plugging in the next location, like a real treasure hunt.

3, Always drive past the sale before parking.
I invariably choose a parking park that is WAY far way from the house when there is one quite close, that I would have found if I had only tired to get closer. Not that I am the person who is always on the look-out for a close parking space, but at estate sales, you might be buying big. It is easier to get it to the car when you are closer.

4. Take pictures.
Sometimes you see things that you do not want, but you want to remember. If for no other reason because it is so strange you want a record! I did not buy this cart above today- but I had to record it for posterity!

5. bring a bag, maybe some bubble wrap.
If you check the websites of the sales and you know that there is glass at the sale that you might want, then bring a bag and a smidgen of bubble wrap. A little bubble wrap will shield your new glass pieces from each other.
