pickin' and grinnin'- the best of this weekend's vintage shopping

It's been a while since I have posted some of my great picks... but "good" shopping has been light on the ground lately. This week was different and awesome! It is mostly headed to my Etsy pop-up shop at Hanna Antiques! More images on that to come from the shop!

From this week's shopping, I found, this fantastic unsigned painting- looks like Chinatown, maybe? Love the more you look, the more you see. It is on natural linen and looks quite old and more vibrant in person. I think I may live with this one for a bit while I do some more research.

Some fantastic house details from one of the sales this weekend. Really lovely home built in 1905 with period lighting and original tile coal fireplaces.

Wowza of an art deco half tester bed
I'd buy the house for this tile work alone!
And possibly for the fantastic brass sconces!
This image is from the Multiple Listings for the house- which I understand is sold.*

Front of the house... I think a porte cochere, on the right, would balance this view nicely. *

Before and after- Chair makeovers, furniture flips

I love taking a piece that needs a bit of attention and making it into a star! It is even better when I take two vaguely related pieces and make twin stars.

One of my clients needed a pair of chairs with a British Colonial feel. I found these chairs with good lines and some caning, a hallmark of British Colonial design, at Hanna Antiques.

In a very "his and hers" classic look, one of the chairs is a bit taller than the other... it is also my fave! The wood splat is a firm support for the back with the caning adding all the character. The client also requested that the backs of the chairs be attractive since they would be seen from the back when entering the room. The second chair in the pictures offers all the good looks from the back, too!

To unify the look of the chairs, I choose to go with the same fabrics for both. I think they look terrific! The small red custom pillows brings out the reds in the fabrics. The pale blue-green background looks great in the greenish blue room.

We are not done yet! Tomorrow brings in the matching pillow for the cane back chair so they match, visually, from the front view. And, the TV "cabinet" is coming tomorrow, too! Later on will be new lighting.

I have added many pieces to this space from Hanna Antiques. I have shopped there since I was in high school and I am proud to be a dealer there now. Antique stores are a great option for those who are looking for well made pieces, with great style at excellent prices! Items used to be made to "last forever", we now call them antiques. Break with the disposable design style and add some vintage/antique into your space.

Shopping- Design deals!

A week or so ago, I found this deal at Costco! These stria tiles look so much with some "to the trade only" tiles, that I had to share. Bathroom, kitchen, sunroom- pick a room, choose a style, get a cool way to lay the tiles and save!

Ten square feet for twenty bucks- total deal. They only come in two colors and they are fairly large. Love large tiles, myself. However, you can have your tile person cut them down, if you need to. They would be so cool as a 4 inch by 12 inch in a subway pattern or a dramatic herringbone! They are textured, so they are perfect for the floor. However, they would be fine as wall tiles as well. Get to shopping!

This weekend's scores- shopping lamps and lighting

This weekend's shopping started on Friday... well, really Wednesday, but I spent more on Friday. So, maybe this really it's weekend shopping, but my shopping week. Either way, I scored.

A national furniture brand is based locally, and is moving locations. So, they had a stock reduction sale open to the public, the door opening coincided with a down pour that spawned tornadoes in other parts of the South.

I let the crazies- who stood in the down pour- clear out before I go there.

People arrived at 7:30!

I strolled in at 11:00-ish in a drizzle and still racked up.

This tall drink of water to my left, mine.

This good looking swinger, mine. Though it needs new candle sleeves and covers.

This Lucite based gliver guy, mine... twice. They just need shades.

This vintage look, broad shouldered fella, mine. I'm thinking flicker bulbs.

If you would like any of these for yourself, please contact me! Though I love them all, I will be adding shades, and fixing flaws in order to sell them. If you are in the Over the Mountain area of Birmingham, I can probably deliver!

a good home...

I'm always glad to think that my vintage finds are finding a good home. This week one of my favorite items is heading home... it's original home. How do I know this? Well, the charming toile cup and saucer below is from Judson College.

Made by Wedgwood, this sweet set was dedicated as a Memorial to Margaret Brown Dean of Women 1908-1931 at Judson College.

The buyer works at Judson College, which is a charming women's college in Alabama.

I had the pleasure of visiting Judson in my undergrad program at Samford and it is a truly lovely place deep in the heart of the Old South which empowerment the women who attend. I saw that in the artwork on display in the campus art gallery.

I am on a personal hunt for china made for the University of Montevallo,
Alabama College-Pink pattern by Wedgwood China

and I love the fact that I could find some for Judson College and that it is going back!

Pickin' and Grinnin'- my faves for this weeks sales

I've completed some stellar shopping this weekend, some for clients, some for the local antique business, and some for the online market! Here are some of my favorites. I know it is real classy to take pictures by the car, but I was in a hurry and barefoot on hot concrete.

Lovely, lovely table, possibly for a client. Pretty lines.

Green chair with it's mate below.

For some reason only one chair was recovered, the one above is in, I think, original vintage condition. The silk upholstery is very pretty, but in sad condition.

Mason fez. sparkle.

sweet little silver plate "tea caddy" with a red lining for trinkets and treasures.

These cute Blenko bear bookends are from last week, sales, but worth mentioning again!

New in the shop- new items in Interiors and Antiques

I have just added some jewels to the space in Interiors and Antiques in Vestavia Hills. Round tables are a coming trend and this channel back chair is great as is or re-covered! Happy shopping.

Great channel back side chair! Neutral upholstery now, could be re-upholstered in something funkier, too!

Love this double armed lamp! It is perfect for the foyer or on a large desk.

This cute little table is a tilt top. Perfect for small spaces where you can tilt the top vertically and store it against a wall.

Super psyched about these two mahogany tables that I just brought in today. Custom glass on the top and pretty finishes. Love the dog paw feet on the lower table and the drawer on the taller one.

If you are interested in any of these pieces, please contact me or head over to Interiors and Antiques in Vestavia Hills. I'm on booth 6 (dealer code LARL). If you have any questions about the pieces or would like the chair recovered, please contact me.
